About Us

Background to Project:

The Respect Project was developed by Rockview United Football Club in 2011. The idea for the project was initiated after members of the club participated in study visits to London and Glasgow where they seen at first hand the benefit that the football in the community programmes delivered by Professional Football Clubs had in engaging with hard to reach communities and reducing incidents of crime and anti social behaviour.

Project Staff:

The Respect Project is delivered by local community volunteers. All staff prior to working on the Project completes a sports leadership qualification which addresses such issues as roles and responsibilities of leaders, health and safety issues, child protection and football coaching skills.

Objectives of Project:
  1. To engage hard to reach young people in project activities
  2. To reduce crime and anti social behaviour in targeted areas
  3. To use sport's universal appeal to bring together people from different backgrounds to make a key contribution to community development
  4. To encourage sportsmanship & citizenship amongst those young people / volunteers involved in the Project
  5. To encourage volunteering within the project and throughout the targeted areas
  6. To create pathways for participants & volunteers into education, training and employment

My kids love the respect project (even the one that doesn’t like sports). The mentors are very patient, kind & give great encouragement for the kids, which builds their confidence. No hesitation in recommending this project.

Its true that when the project was first started it was predominantly football based programmes and young boys who enrolled in the various programmes. However we have put alot of effort over the last 3 years or so into getting more girls involved by starting up get into sport programmes and also multi sport programmes which helped get more girls involved. We are glad to say that many of our programmes now have lots of girls involved, some even have more girls than boys.
